This was created during the "self quarantine". I didn’t believe the figures... and found, in actuality 80% were false positive tests. Italian officials now say maybe only 2 people actually died from COVID 19. Virtually every death was initially being counted in the death toll... which was artificially inflated, and now being reassessed. This situation is being replicated globally.... The real battle is a psychological one, being waged against the world’s citizens. Hence the title, a famous quote about psychological warfare... “Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars” The media is more than just complacent, it is perpetuating a false narrative.

In this essay the images hover between reality and concepts to examine the way in which we view the world, our dreams and imagination fuelled by drives and desires. At the same time it intends to give the viewer space to delve into their own imagination and thus continue the story. The images may not appear directly related and yet they share an atmosphere of the urban middle class with its anxieties, nostalgia, faux nostalgia, and the encumbering complexities of the ever aggressive 21st century rat race in which they are inevitably trapped. I could have chosen cities other than the one presented here, but in the end I reflected the one place I know well, my own habitat, portraying the presence of the invisible, the unfreedom. Do we know our drives and desires? After all we live by and in them like two colliding cultures neither willing to submit. The questions asked by the images in this essay are no longer about people, who seem to have vanished, but about its very raison d'être.

Chant for a Pandemic; is a short, experimental film, made by collaborators across the globe in response to the Covid 19 pandemic. Curated and edited by American experimental filmmaker, Dee Hood, the whole thing was shot and put together in less than two weeks. Artists around the world are feeling a need to reflect and react to this new, fast changing, almost post-apocalyptic looking world with immediacy, and this is one early response created by a group of individuals who have mostly never met in real life but do have a shared vision and a passion for expression. We feel that video art and experimental approaches can shine a light on those areas of life which more traditional art forms or reportage cannot, getting deeper into those subconscious, dreamlike or even nightmarish feelings and sensations that we all experience but do not always acknowledge.

What forms did confinement take for you? Did it give you a space of: relaxation, fear, creativity, anxiety, sadness, anguish, violence, new opportunities, peace ...? The covid 19 pandemic is like a portrait of devastation during World War 2 in Manila in the 1940’s. It brought a mixture of fear, anxiety, sadness and violence to all of us because of the lockdown and the uncertain future under a new normal. The Covid 19 pandemic is changing the world in many ways. The virus is like an enemy that cannot be seen. Derivative artwork from Philippine National Artist Fernando Amorsolo work entitled "Hope in the Ruins of Manila" painted in 1945

In the series "A thousand ways to embrace yourself" I explore my own relationship with myself and objects I have at home. In this time of physical restriction I am searching for the consequences of being isolated. One minute sculptures is an evident medium to do that. The series is ongoing through the lockdown-period. When looking at one separate picture the embrace is visible. When a number of pictures are accumulated in one frame they hold a certain dynamic, it becomes rhizome choreography: like a chaotic dance or a fight. With this image I am referring to the mental influence that this lockdown can have on people.

Subscribiendo así, la función de esta serie, a un comentario de pintor Francesco Clemente: Now a self-portrait is almost a reminder to me that I do exist.

From the answers I created some short dance videos, made while I was also confined. The videos were initiated by the recordings, these voices were the starting point from which I created the dance. Of course we each see things from our own perspective, so « CONFI(N)DANCE » is my own interpretation of what I heard, felt, understood, imagined…"

My white bed sheet sometimes reminded me of “kefen” (in Azerbaijan, white shroud used to roll people in while burying) and sometimes of "belek" (in Azerbaijan, white shroud used to roll new-born babies until they are half-a-year old). It was as if I had split into two, and that was destroying me. I fought with myself and it lasted for 18 days. Today I climbed from the basement where I lived to the roof of the building. Having stood from the bed, I forced my own self lying in bed to raise the flag of peace.

A sensation of lightness but at the same time of inconsistent heaviness in observing an infinite space such as the sky. The flakes of poplars fly like the thoughts that haunt us in these weeks. We are forced to face and clash with ourselves during isolation. We entrust to the sky, and some to a god, our doubts, our uncertainties, our questions. They fly like the swallows that bring a surreal spring, come to announce that we will no longer be the same. And upon their arrival, after more than a month waiting by our windows, we are pervaded by a sense of acceptance of our individual and human condition.

As a spiritually inclined individual, I view the world through an innate sense of oneness with life. Aside from the oneness with other human beings, this lens permeates even further into an all-prevailing connection with our natural environment. We’re witnessing a time of blatant destruction of the natural world for its resources by the hands of humans. This issue of abuse emerging from a growing disconnect from nature has become the central topic for my artistic intervention. In my work Balance | Paradox, I employ the use of an installation performance ritual to comment on the nature of this destruction and disconnect, and how it has in-turn played a role in paradoxically destroying the human life itself. The piece highlights the horrors of the Covid-19 pandemic, instigated by an imbalance in the ecosystem by us humans. The work starts by exploring the suffocation and the helplessness caused due to the quarantine and comments further on the notions of ‘home’ and human existence. Using the concept of ‘paradox’ between life and death, strength and vulnerability, connection and disconnection, the work is intended to awaken a deeper awareness into our own actions and rekindle our moral sense of responsibility towards a conscious and more compassionate life.

While in lockdown and stuck in the city, I am facing the changes of my whole life. I live in Bangkok and have a small company in China, but I am blocked from China now. All that I have worked for is in question and I was facing the chance of becoming an illegal alien in Thailand as my visa was up and I needed to leave the country. As a queer person I cannot marry my Thai partner, so this complete travel lockdown has brought up the questions of how unfair it is as a queer person to not have the same right to exist and have life with someone you love. While straight people can marry and get a visa here, I cannot. During this crazy stressful time and borders closing, I have turned my art room in Bangkok into my escape and working on creating an installation and paintings and will include some video performances. As part of a series I have collected all my garbage from 2017-2018 and have been making art with it since. And now, I am working to transform the entire workspace into a new realm made from the old. We have all the ideas and knowledge we need, the post-modern issue is still learning how to put the pieces of the puzzle back together again. I am not sure if I am creating a time capsule of life before Covid-19 or preminations about what society might become.
